You’re lying awake in bed, tossing and turning. Something is wrong, but you can’t put your finger on it. The reality suddenly dawns on you - you’re not wearing your aligners!
One of the most incredible things about using clear aligners to straighten your teeth as opposed to braces is that you can simply pop them out when you want to eat. However, sometimes people forget to put them back in. Plates in restaurants get cleared, picnics are packed up and pizza boxes get recycled, sadly leaving the aligners abandoned.
We can’t count the amount of excuses we’ve heard for why people’s aligners have ended up in the bin, in the dog’s mouth, or lost. We CAN give you advice on what to do next.
Lost Your Clear Aligners? Here’s What To Do
Don’t worry. All your amazing progress will not be lost. You’re just having a little setback - it happens. Here are some easy steps to fixing things that you can take right now.
- You should always, always keep your previous aligners and never throw them away. Got your previous set? Good. Go and find them, and wear them to keep your teeth in place. A replacement will take a few days to reach you, so at least make sure that you have your most recent ones in the meantime.
- Contact smilogy. We love all of our customers and want to help you however possible. Give us a call on 02 8005 4434 or get in touch and we’ll be right back with you during business hours.
Don’t forget to include your full name, customer number and the number of the aligner that needs replacing. For example, if it was your 5th set, let us know. This is easy to find on our packaging. - We aim to send all replacements within ______ days, at a cost of ______. Typically, they will reach you in about ______ days. While you wait, just keep the previous set in, as above. If they need a clean, simply wash in warm, soapy water or soak in a water and denture cleaning tablet solution.
It’s Going To Be Okay
You may end up finishing treatment a couple of weeks later than expected, but it’s all good. Don’t be tempted to cut down the time you wear your future sets to make up for it, because moving teeth too fast can be bad for the gums.
Just remember - keep all your aligners somewhere safe, and that way, you have them to fall back on.
