Australia may have been one of the last countries to join the party, but research shows that Halloween celebrations are growing here year on year.
Many parents get involved with trick or treating, which although fun, can be a dental nightmare.
If you’re kids are excited about dressing up and celebrating, make sure the only horrors this Halloween are in movies and not in your child’s mouth. Here are some smile-friendly solutions we think are frightfully good!
Carry Sugar-Free Gum
If your kids are old enough not to swallow it, you can safely give them sugar-free gum. This will help them produce more saliva in between Halloween treats, which can wash away bacteria and help in the fight against cavities.
Let Them Eat Chocolate
We get it - sometimes kids just want what they want. Chocolate is actually a better option than lollies, because while it’s full of sugar, it doesn’t tend to stick to the teeth as much. If you can, go for dark chocolate. Then you’ll hardly have to worry about sugar at all.
Get Creative!
Whether it’s pumpkin soup made from the parts you carve out to make a lantern or a “blood” smoothie, there are loads of healthy, themed treats you can create with a little imagination.
Offer Non-Edible Treats
If your kids aren’t sold on the healthy stuff, opt for treats they can’t eat instead. Some spooky stickers or ghostly glow in the dark stars would never go amiss.
Brush & Floss Before Bed
No matter how tired they are after a night of dressing up and general hijinx, you need to make sure they brush and floss. Brushing should take two minutes, and you should supervise flossing to make sure they get it right.
Kids Will Be Kids - Book Their Check-Up
No matter how healthy your household, kids need to be on top of their regular check-ups every 6-12 months. We don’t mind if they over-indulge from time to time, we just want to see them to help strengthen their smiles.
