Out & About? Keep Your Breath Fresh On The Go

The team at smilogy has put together a few tips which may help you.

Who doesn’t love fresh breath? There’s nothing quite like the confidence it brings you. While we’re all having to stay a little further apart these days (thanks, covid), it’s still so much better knowing that your breath won’t be a barrier.

It’s often easy to freshen up at home, but what about when you’re on the go? The team at smilogy has put together a few tips which may help you.

Stock Up On Sugar Free Gum

If you think ahead, you’ll never be caught out again. Pack some mint flavour sugar-free gum or sugar free lollies in your bag or wallet before leaving the house in the morning. This can be great for a quick, temporary fix.

We love this at smilogy because it actually encourages saliva production. This means you can more easily get rid of any food particles causing problems or bacteria which try to cling to your tongue and teeth.

Please note that gum and lollies aren’t suitable for everyone. For example, steer clear when wearing clear aligners!

Uh Oh… I’m Out Of Gum!

If you don’t always have gum to hand (or you just don’t like it), try buying a little travel toothbrush which can just stay in your bag permanently.

You can buy little kits of mini mouthwash, a toothbrush, toothpaste and even floss to have with you at all times. Just make sure the toothbrush has a cover.

Try Parsley. No, Seriously!

You won’t always be in an Italian restaurant, but if you can get your hands on some parsley, it works wonders to freshen breath. It goes without saying, too, that if mint is on hand then that’s even better.

If you’ve ever wondered what people did in the old days before toothpaste was around, people often did this. Chewing herbs won’t make up for not brushing your teeth, but it’ll turn things around in seconds.

Keep On Top Of Dental Hygiene

Our food choices do affect the way our breath smells, but that’s not always the culprit. There are many reasons why people have bad breath (link to reasons blog), and so staying on top of your dental hygiene can keep you fresher for longer.

When you don’t brush or floss regularly, bacteria gets stuck to your teeth and tongue and becomes plaque. If this hardens, it becomes tartar and this can cause decay or gum disease. When this happens, it doesn’t smell very pleasant.

Known as “halitosis” in the industry, bad breath can be an ongoing thing for you if you have digestive issues or if you take certain medication.

You need to keep up with your dental appointments, which should be scheduled at least every 6-12 months.

Our Australian dentists and hygienists here at smilogy would be happy to talk to you about the causes and try and help solve any problems so that it doesn’t bother you anymore. There’s no need to be embarrassed - it can happen to anyone.
